The Wine and Beer Tasting has been scheduled for May 4th at the Civic Center.  There are currently 8 vendors confirmed with the possibility of 11.  Radio will be covering the event.  The next meeting will be held at the Bistro at 12:15 on Wednesday, March 14th.  Leslie will be creating the tickets again this year and they will be ready for distribution shortly.  It was suggested that the silent auction be set up in advance.  Ken has offered the Scotia Bank.  There will be an advertisement on Kijiji and Dale’s cell phone number will be a contact.

Breakfast – Cathy

Coming right up…March 24th our breakfast will be held at the Legion.  It will be a learning curve with the new facilities.  Tickets were passed out.  Please sell and bring the monies in prior to the event date.  Beans will be handed out next week.

Club Administration – Wayne

A program has been set in place to offer pre-paid breakfasts (Pre-paid Meal Plan).  This is an optional plan for Rotarians and has been approved by the Executive.  Fees may be paid by cash, cheque, or credit card.  The plan will be offered quarterly with an opt-in/opt-out choice which includes 12 meals.  It does not include 50/50 and members participating must remember to report to Barb J for attendance and to purchase their 50/50 ticket.  It will also not include the Paul Harris evening, Christmas party, Summer BBQ, or the two weeks that meetings are not held (usually Christmas time).  There will be no refunds for missed meetings or make-ups.  Should members pay by credit card, this information will be held for a period of 18 months in a safety deposit box.  Forms will need to be completed and receipts will be given.  The first quarter will start with April 5th meeting.  Your forms must be submitted prior to this in order to participate.  The cost is $108 ($9 x 12 meals).

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Wine/Beer – Wednesday, March 14th, Bistro, 12:15pm.

PRESIDENT’S TIME

Club Runner

President Ken passed around a survey regarding the usage of our website, Club Runner.  Members were asked to complete and pass in prior to leaving today.

Rotary Items

Most items have been moved to the Save-Easy basement (thanks, Andy!) with the exception of a few documents.  Looking for someone to sort through all the documents as there are probably duplicates and irrelevant materials.  If anyone is interested, please let Ken know.

New Year

On July 1st we will have a new District Govenor (as well as a new President).  President Ken shared the following goals of the upcoming DG:

  • Wants to establish a Chair in each club to support last year’s New Generations program;
  • Wants to use “involvement” chart presented by John Carkner (sp?);
  • Wants to communicate new, innovative, ideas;
  • Wants to place the District Newsletter on Facebook;
  • Wants members to attend District meetings;
  • Wants to hold the Learning Institute in Holton, Maine;

Pam H informed us that there will also be two District conferences this year as opposed to one.  Rotary Awareness Week is in May…perhaps all the clubs can get together at that time????

Membership Night

Ken expressed that this event went well and that positive light was placed on Sackville Rotary contributions both globally and locally.

Exchange Opportunity

An exchange to India is being planned for late October or November.  This will be a group of young professionals aged 25-40 years old.  Participants cannot be Rotarians, however, there is a need for a Rotary chaperone.  If anyone is interested, please contact Ken.

New Fundraiser?
Planting a seed… “Sports Champs” …more to follow…soon.

Rotary Learning Institute

Interested in learning more about Rotary?  This informative session will be given again this year on April 14th in Dieppe at the Community College.  This is a three-part program with a fourth that includes a ‘Train-the-Trainers’ session.  The Club will pick up the fees for this.  Ken has the application forms for anyone interested.

This Year’s Motto/Theme

Pam H informed us of this year’s theme, “Peace Through Service”.  In light of this, there will be a Peace Without Borders conference held in Germany from November 30th to December 2nd.  This will include a tour of the (non-existent) Berlin wall.  Cost to go will be approximately $1,000 for airfare and $500 for the conference itself, and lodging.  There will probably be around 250-300 Rotarians in attendance.  Pam will be attending herself.

On a final note, Breakfast posters were available for any Rotarians who have a place to post them.

President Ken adjourned with the stating of the 4-Way Test.
