ImageKen chaired this morning’s Club Assembly, first by welcoming everyone followed by our positive thought:  "If successful people have one common trait, it's an utter lack of cynicism. The world owes them nothing. They go out and find what they need without asking for permission; they're driven, talented, and work through negatives by focusing on the positives." ~ Mike Zimmerman

$$$ 50/50 DRAW $$$

Karen drew lucky Trish’s winning number.  Enjoy!

HAPPY DOLLARS

  1. Trish is happy to have won 50/50;

  2. RYE Pernille passed around a pledge sheet last week and was very happy with the results!
  3. Pat is celebrating her twin grand children’s birthday.  They are 2-years-old;
  4. Josh was happy to notice the sunlight on his drive in this morning.  He is also excited about his first trial today!!
  5. John borrowed $1 from Dianne in order to share the following PSA:  The Sweetest Little Thing will be featured again at Struts Gallery on Feb. 14th at 7pm.  Everyone welcome!
  6. Dianne celebrated hubby, Frank’s, birthday yesterday.   She also heard from former RYE student, Kiki, who is now living in El Paso and working to promote a new school there.
  7. Barb J was happy to have had a Skype conversation with her grand-daughter (who is in the running as the smartest Rotary grandchild).
  8. Wayne participated in Curl for Cancer last weekend where they raised a record-breaking $19,210.  Wow!!
  9. Ken also shared a PSA this morning, informing us of the Annual Scotia Bank Cake Auction which will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 14th at 8:30am.  Proceeds will go towards a Defibulator, Habitat for Humanity, and Tree of Hope.  (Writer) Wondering why Ken was in his casual attire today…he also told us that he and Linda were ‘getting away’ for a couple of days.  Have fun!
  10. Karen spotted a dollar to share the success of the high school’s breakfast last Saturday, raising $1,200 for graduation activities.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Foundation – Sandy

  • Reported a great year with $9,000 raised so far and hoping for $10,000 at year-end.  We have already exceeded our goal.
  • Paul Harris on February 23rd where several members will be recognized.  Sue P added that there will be a roast beef dinner with two choices of desserts.  Lori Ann Wesselby will be catering at St. Ann’s Church with a meeting time of 6pm.  Supper will be served at 6:30pm.  The cost of this function is $15 (which is a deal given by Lori) and should be paid by Feb.16th.  The night will include the induction of four new members.  Rotarians are more than welcome to bring guests at a cost of $15.00 per person.  Dress for the evening (in Sue’s words): “Presentable”.

Club Administration – Wayne

  • Committee is working on using credit cards (no debit yet) in conjunction with a module in Club Runner.
  • A reminder that our breakfast meeting on Feb. 23rd will be replaced by our Paul Harris evening.  NO BREAKFAST MEETING ON FEB. 23RD.
  • As well, on March 1st, the Membership Committee will be hosting a program to encourage potential members – there will be no breakfast meeting on this date either.

Membership – Dale

  • Fifteen letters have been sent out to potential new members.
  • Info session to take place on March 1st at the Crab Tree Auditorium at 7pm.
  • Marilyn Trenholm will be the guest speaker for the evening.

Projects – Trish

  • Informed us that $3,000 (now $3,200 – soccerballs to the Dominican) has been allotted for International programs.
  • Locally the committee is working on the Literacy Learned Program which can include the removal of obstacles, breakfast, sanitation, books-in-hand…whatever it takes.  John is looking at initiatives to engage and identify needs of the community.
  • Another initiative is to put an advertising campaign (9 to 12 month period) in the Tribune.  This will inform the community of Rotary’s endeavours.  Previously articles have been written by Rotarians.  This time, Tribune staff will also participate.  Articles will include: Marshview Middle School Breakfast Program (February); Salem School endeavours (March); and Wine Tasting event (April).

RYE – Dianne (in Robin’s absence)

  • Would like to see a Tribune article about RYE - both inbound/outbound programs – and the requirement/need for host families;
  • Robin is stepping back and is looking for a replacement - Barb J has agreed to look after outbound students but we are still in need of an inbound coordinator;
  • RYE ski-weekend scheduled for Feb.24th;
  • New York trip scheduled for Mar. 4th;
  • New member Marita Webb has joined the committee;
  • Dianne has decided to step down and will be exploring another committee;

Fundraising – Gayle

  • The Rotaract/Rotary Chili-Cook Off  did not have a good showing.  Thanks to the 7 donated chilis by Rotarians and three submitted by the students.  $240 was raised (less expenses) and it was a fun event!  Bruce (Trish’s man) won the crock pot prize for Best Chili.  Leslie was given the honour of Spiciest!!
  • Wine/Beer Tasting even is planned for May 4th from 7-9pm at the Civic Center.  There are many things to do so see Gayle.  The next meeting planned is Feb.22nd at Bistro 96 at lunchtime.  Many things have already been solidified.  A logo/slogan or the event was suggested by Sandy “That’s the Spirit” or “Splendor in a Glass”.  Ticket sales are the biggest concern.  They will be sold again at $35 each and we need to get them printed and sold asap.

Odds and Ends

  • Sue P informed us that we have been given storage space in the basement of Save-Easy.  Thanks, Andy!  Items will be moved on February 25th, so anyone willing to help, that would be great!
  • Recently, Club Administration has looked at prepayment of breakfasts (we pay for 30 no matter how many members show up).  Rotarians will be able to purchase ¼ or full year at a time.  There will be no refunds for no attendance.  For ¼ year, the fees will be $108 but does not include 50/50.  This can be paid via Visa/cash/cheque.  There will be a form to fill out which will remain in a safety deposit box for safe-keeping.
  • Ken thanked everyone for their committee updates.  He also informed members of an initiative being done by some students (class) where they will conduct a survey to see “What does Rotary do?”  It could be rather interesting.  (Note: I had never heard of Sackville Rotary until Jake Fisher.)

The meeting adjourned with the stating of the 4-Way Test.
