PRESIDENT’S TIME

ImageToday is Club Assembly.

Ken informed us that Pam H thought we might be able to incorporate the fact that it is leap year in order to do some sort of fundraiser.  It was suggested that we could raise funds for the Paul Harris House.  If each club gave only $300, it would raise $9.9 million.  The property has already been purchased for $500,000.  Next are the upgrades.  Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

In true Christmas and Rotary spirit, Ken passed around an envelope for monetary Christmas Cheers! for our Thursday server.

As it is only days before we celebrate Christmas, Ken decided in lieu of the Club Assembly, he’d share his own Christmas memories, including the gathering of ten children at his parents’ house.  Ken continued to read The Story of a Draper Christmas  which will be available for reading soon.

Other members continued with memories of their own…

Frank thinks he’s a Draper J

Sandy remembers the Christmas when he dad and his friends were celebrating with a few drinks and decided to ‘prepare’ the turkey when he mother went to bed.  Yikes!

Peter’s best memory was a 4:30am one Christmas morning when he awoke to super-slider snow skates (skis).  He was outside in the fresh snow by 5am!

Dianne shared being at the top of the stairs, when she was little girl, and her parents were just going to bed after celebrations the night before.

Pam H’s family had a tree-decorating ceremony and each decoration was special.  Her brother ‘watered’ the tree (highway sand and salt were in there somewhere) and every needle fell off!

Mount Allison exchange student Karina shared her own traditions saying that on December 23rd everything is very ‘normal’, then on the 24th the door is closed to prepare for the celebrations.  The bell would sound and that would mean that the Christ Child left and all was ready.  Celebrations included live candles on the tree.

ImageRYE exchange student Pernille said that they celebrate on the 24th.  One of their traditions is to walk around the tree singing carols.

President Ken adjourned with the stating of the 4-Way Test...

as well as the wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2012!
