MAKE-UPS

The Executive, RYE, and Membership committees all met this past week. Names should be submitted to Barb J.

Elizabeth also had a make-up at the Rotary Corporate Challenge this past Friday. It is activities, similar to the television game show, Minute-to-Win-it.  There were 26 teams made up of 5-7 members. "So much fun!"

BIRTHDAYS

Darrell and Karen both celebrate this week.  Darrell on the 19th and Karen on the 16th. Luckily it was Darrell who donned "The Hat" and...sunglasses?!

ANNIVERSARIES

Ken and Linda celebrate on the 16th.  Have a happy anniversary.

PIN PAL

Pat had some Mt. Allison students over to put wood in - part of a Shinerama commitment - one was a former RYE student.  Pat started off with three students and ended up with six. It might have had something to do with the food and beer she was serving

Ove met Sandy Burnett at a funeral.

50/50 DRAW

Gayle drew Pam B.'s number for an exciting win.  Enjoy that $14.00, Pam!

HAPPY DOLLARS

Pam B. was very happy to have won 50/50 but even happier that she is now cancer-drug free, something that has been foreign to her for 15 years! Awesome!

Sandy's daughter (and partner) are coming for a visit.  Sandy cleaned out the basement, had a yardsale, and finally got the sauna up and running. Enjoy!

Peter wore his Rotary pin to the MBADA Trade Show last week but did not come across any Rotarians.

Pat is happy that the Fall Fair takes place this weekend.

Although a sad ending, Su is happy that her friend's body (missing since August 31st from St. Johns, Nfld) has been found.  It will bring closure to the family. They still don't know what took place.  Condolences, Su.

Ken was happy to have gobbled up two pieces of lemon pie at the Executive committee meeting. Executive has its perks!!

NEXT WEEK

Beth = Chairperson; Ove = Introducer; Sue P. = Thanker; Charlie = Greeter

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Fundraising - Gayle - A reminder that the Golf Ball Drop takes place Friday, September 16th at 7pm behind the Civic Center. Help is needed. Ken mentioned that Rotary would be set up at Save-Easy today at 1pm to sell tickets. He also mentioned that he had more luck selling when people would find out that the proceeds went towards literacy.

Membership - Andy - An email was sent to all members requesting 3-5 names of people of interest for our club. The committee feels that October would be a good month to host a fireside chat.

Food Cards - Ove the "Grocery Guy" - now has both Save-Easy and Co-op cards. Ove will also be collecting the Save-Easy slips from now on.

Administration - Sue P. - Bridge Walk scheduled for September 25 (time pending).  Please dress appropriately for the 2kms walk. Our lobster dinner will also be held on the same day at a cost of $25.00 per person - please pay in advance. There is an alternative for those who don't want lobster.

Wayne mentioned that the Relay for Life team would be meeting right after this morning's Rotary meeting.

PRESIDENT'S TIME

Due to VP Bruno Gnassi moving to Sherbrooke, a seat on the Board of Directors became vacant.  President Ken motioned that Membership Chair, Andy Rose, be placed on the Board of Directors.  This motion was seconded by ????.  A vote was taken by members.  All were in favor.  Motion moved.

Club members were encouraged to use Club Runner when sending emails to other members.  It was asked if the Honorary Members could be removed from the distribution list to which the answer is no.

President Ken asked those members, who were not already a part of a committee, to please get involved.  Committees normally meet once per month.  All committees are listed in Club Runner.

"Imaging winning $300...$400..."  VP Trish to elaborate.

A reminder was given to members to have their Police Check complete.  These need to be done every three years.

VICE PRESIDENT'S TIME

Speaking on behalf of the Projects Committee, Trish invited all members to join their team at any time.  Monies raised were distributed to our RYE program and other.  "Other" is then divided 50% local and 50% international.  We have approximately $3,000 for each.  The Projects Committee submitted a proposal for $1,000 to go to the Somalian Relief Fund for Shelter Box.  This donation would be matched by the government if received prior to September 16.  The Executive approved this motion but needed to bring it to the members for a final vote.  A brief discussion among members was held.  Trish Edwards motioned that our club contribute $1,000 to the Somalian Relief Fund for Shelter Box.  Motion was seconded by Peter Hess.  All members were in favor and the motion passed.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Trish introduced Sherry Dumont, Senior Manager Revenue Development with the Canadian Cancer Society throughout New Brunswick.  A position she has held for 17 years.  Sherry enjoys working with volunteers and is very moved by the strength and reasons people give of themselves to make a difference in the course of cancer control.

With Sherry this morning, is Allie Byrne a 4th year Mount Allison student studying biochemistry.  Allie hails from Charlottetown, PEI, and is 2011's Relay for Life Chair at Mt.A.

As a refresher of last year's presentation, Sherry reviewed the Society's five priorities: research, education/information, support, advocacy, and prevention.  Cancer Society's mission is to eradicate cancer.  Cancer touches everyone.

This is Sackville's 8th year holding Relay for Life and they are now looking for Corporate sponsors.  They are also looking for another student to be chair-in-waiting for next year.  Relay for Life is scheduled for October 14th.

Sherry informed us that the Cancer Society's Annual Report may be accessed online.  She then told a story about "Wilfred" - which can also be found in their pamphlet.

Of all monies raised, 6-7% goes to administrative costs.

Allie commented that this is a joint event (Town of Sackville and Mount Allison University).  Sackville is a strong community but they are lacking a representative to act as Chair.

Fundraising activities have been planned to be held prior to Relay for Life.

Appropriately, Pam B. thanked Sherry and Allie for their informative presentation stating that there is 'wonderful work being done".

Vice President Trish ended our meeting with the stating of our 4-Way Test.
