Su Coish was in the Chair this week, starting the meeting with the Rotary Minute.  There were no visiting Rotarians but Pam intoduced her friend Ibel.  They have been friends since 1964, and most recently, winter travelling buddies.  As today was Ibel's birthday, Su got to crown her with the "Aussie Hat."

 

Guest Ebel's Birthday (WinCE)  No other Rotarians or guests had a birthday, or anniversary or had a Pin Pal story.

                                                                                                      Charlie Scobie (WinCE)  Charlie was doubly happy - he won and that Tues July 26th, there will be a speaker at St. Andrews Church talking about the Israeli conflict..............Dianne was happy to have picked up Katrine at the airport for the last time.  She leaves for home on Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm.  She also encouraged everyone to vote for Sackville in the Kraft Challange.........Wayne apologized for not getting the bulletin out last week and another dollar for recruitment for the Rotary Relay for Life team in October.  He circulated a signup sheet...........Ove was happy as he and Pat learned they are about to become grandparents - Ove's daughter Anna is expecting..........Chair Su was happy after having bought a bracelet at a yard sale for $.50.  She had it appraised - you guessed it - $1,000.  Nice!..........Pam B. reported that Barb J. is off to merry old England and when she returns she will have a new love - a new puppy..........Bruno and Johanne had a few sad dollars as it was their last Rotary meeting before relocating to Sherbrook QE............Sandy reported how much she enjoyed the latest offering from Live Bait Theatre, a play called Fire.

Next Weeks Chair is Sandy, the Greeter is Sue P., the Introducer is John and the Thanker is Ove.  Dianne will be in charge of Laing's comfort.

Charlie reported on the "History Committee's" latest find - a story in this month's issue of MTA's Record.  In it is a story of one Debbie Johnston (the daughter of the Governor General) and an Rotary Foundation Scholar in 1990/91.  Today she is a well respected lawyer in international law.  She repeated a long history of the Rotary Foundation Scholar successes.

Trish subbed for President Ken and reported on the various vacancies in the Executive ranks.  After a Special Executive meeting held earlier in the week, the Executive recommends to the club the following; a motion by Trish that "Gayle Key assume the role of President Nominee and will become President in 2013- 2014 and that Pam Bowman become Club Secretary beginning immediately".  The motion was seconded by Wayne and carried by the members.

George introduced our guest speaker - RA Lautenschlager, the Executive Director of the Canada Conservation Data Centre, and a  noted conservationlst, songwriter and musician.  He spoke of the difficulty encountered in following our beliefs, which are not necessarily factual.  He works with an very knowledgible group of scientists, who are knowledigible about all things in the animal and plant world.  The information they collect is for sale to other government and private agencies.  RA's group represent the Maritime Provinces and Quebec.
