UPCOMING MEETINGS

Legacy Committee to meet after this morning’s breakfast.

PRESIDENT’S TIME

President Ken thanked Laing and Joyce for the hospitality while hosting this year’s Christmas party.  Many thanks were given to the organizers.

Sackville’s Mayor approached Ken with an interesting concept with regards to Sustainable Sackville.  It will be a 3-prong approach.  Ken will provide more details at a later time.

“Everyone wants to be Santa…Now we can.”  Thanks to Pam H. we all donned our Santa hats for a group photo.  We look awesome!

GUEST SPEAKER

Pat introduced our own Rotarian as retired from Atlantic Wholesalers turned carpenter ‘extraordinaire’.  Here’s Darrell – to share with us our club’s budget.

Darrell opened with, “So.  What do you want to know?”

Each Committee has a budget with 50% of the revenue going towards the RYE program.

The Profit & Loss versus Actual was explained in detail with the following breakdown:  General Fund $16,000; Giving $ 3,500; Receipt Gifts $4,700; Wine Tasting $14,000 (with $5,000 in expenses which are covered by other things such as the basket raffle, 50/50).  For a total of $27,000.

Expenses come to $10,344 and include: Christmas Party, Breakfasts, and RYE.

The following monies are those we’ve given out:  Other charities $3,965; Overhead $9,000; Community $6,000; International $3,300 from our income of about $55,000.  These numbers include our dues to District and International.

Although Darrell doesn’t have any worries about our finances he is concerned that our breakfast meetings are at the break-even point.

The next set of numbers shown was the Balance Sheet – Own versus Owe which showed that we are holding onto about $36,000 in cash and $5,000 in food cards.  Some members felt that we should not be sitting on that much money.

Former Treasurer Brian explained that the surplus has been built up over the past few years and that there should be some surplus anyways.  Our events require us to spend money before we make money.  We need enough to cover our expenses.  Brian felt this was not an astronomical surplus.

It was felt that the Treasurer is required to handle a lot of cash.  We now have a debit card to do deposits which will not show a balance.  Brian asked how do you control cash?  There’s no easy answer.  You look for control and distribution of workload.  Ultimately, we need to trust those dealing with the cash.

Brian thanked Darrell for not only bringing us up-to-date, but for allowing him to be the ‘former’ Treasurer.

Prior to adjourning the meeting, President Ken informed us of the picture of Paul Harris at his family home, and about Rotary purchasing the home in order to restore it as a Club.  Unfortunately, they have run out of money. Ken asked Rotarians to give this some thought.  How can we help?  Do we make a donation?  Do we raise some funds within the club?

Condolences were given to Darren and the passing of his grandmother.

President Ken adjourned our meeting with the stating of the 4-Way Test.
