President Ken was in the chair today as he welcomed District Governor Leigh Cummings and his wife Sandy to Sackville and the Club.  Apart from the DG and his wife, Visiting Rotarians and other guests were no noted.  A similar fate was accorded to makeups and pin pal stories.

Celebrating another year older on the 13th is Sue P.  Image  There were no other birthdays.  On the anniversary front, Wayne & Sandy will celebrate 43 years of marriage on the 17th.  They will do so with family in Long Point ON.

It would be fair to say that someone in the room won the 50/50 draw.   I just don't know who.  In the "i'm happy despite the weather" category, Dianne revealed how impressed she was with Ryan Cook's performance in the latest Live Bait Theatre dinner fare.............Gayle told a titillating tale of an encounter with Ove.  Inquiring minds of those not there want to know........Peter was happy and praised his daughter's equestrian performance............Pam B. showed her medal from the Burlington VT dragon-boat festival.............Charissa thanked everyone for the opportunity to go to Equador...........Beth told the members of her mother's journey with cancer and the hope for a recovery...........Seems Wynn had gold on his mind..........Ken was happy that he chose the right gift for his grandson's birthday............DG Leigh told us that his wife Sandy had a connection to Sackville.  Her 3rd great grandfather had sold a parcel of land on a hill in 1835 to a chap named Allison............Sue P. was happy to have had the chance to visit her father.

Committee reports were lacking this week as most of the chairs were on vacation.  In Ken's report he noted items discussed at the Executive meeting - the refreshment of Rotary Signage in the Town, The corn boil for MTA students on September 3rd, caring for the spouses of deceased Rotarians and the creation of a "what if" board.  Ken commended Treasurer Darrell on his financial report.

Ken introduced District Governor Leigh Cummings from Houlton ME.  Leigh said that every Rotarian should have an "elevator speech" on "What is Rotary."  Such a speech would describe Rotary in the length of time it take to ride on an elevator.  He also brought greeting from RI President Kalyan Banerjee with emphasis on three values - family, continuity and change.  He quoted Gandhi, saying "you must be the change you want to see in the world."  Our membership must reflect our ethnic diversity, age spectrum and must not be seen to be "male, pale and stale."   Leigh commended Pam H. and Leslie on their involvement in Rotary at a wider level.  He invited us all to attend the District Conference in Houlton ME next June.  It will be held in a hockey rink and will have hockey referees and other hockey symbols.

The meeting concluded with Charlie, presenting his book on the history of our Club to the District Governor.
